Privacy policy
Last updated 2 November 2026
Chopinson connects people in Nigeria with home cooks who sell food through our app and website. This policy explains what information we collect, why we need it, who sees it and what you can ask us to do with it. We handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Questions: support@chopinson.com.
What we collect
If you watch or order
- Your delivery details: address, landmark and, if you allow it, your location while the app is open. We never use location in the background.
- Your orders: what you ordered, from which cook, the amounts, and the delivery code (stored only in scrambled form).
- How you use the ❤️ Feed: which videos you watch, finish, skip, like or order from, so we can show you food you'll want. Guests are identified by a random device ID, not by name.
- Payments: handled by Paystack. We receive the payment reference and amount; we never see or store your card details.
If you create an account
- Your phone number (for WhatsApp sign-in codes) or email address and password, your name, @handle and profile photo.
- What you post: videos, comments, likes, follows and messages to Support.
If you sell food
- Your kitchen's name, menu, prices, delivery settings, opening hours and exact kitchen location.
- Your email address, for payout receipts and important notices.
- Your bank name, the last 4 digits of your account and the account name. The full account number is held by Paystack, which pays you.
- For identity checks: your NIN, a selfie and your cooking video. Your NIN is sent to our identity-check provider; we keep only the last 3 digits and the result.
- Your weekly kitchen checklist answers and photos.
Why we use it
- To take orders, work out delivery fees and distances, and get your food to you.
- To take payments, pay cooks and issue refunds.
- To check that kitchens are real, safe and run by the person who signed up.
- To show the ❤️ Feed and Home in an order that suits you.
- To answer Support messages, prevent fraud and keep Chopinson safe.
Who sees what
- Cooks and their riders see your delivery address only for an order you placed with them.
- Customers see a cook's area and a rounded distance, never the exact kitchen location.
- Someone paying a Pay-for-me link sees your name, note, the food and the fees, but never your address.
- Gift recipients add their own address; the buyer never sees it.
- Everyone can see public posts: videos, comments, likes and your @handle.
- The Chopinson team can see order and account details to give support, check kitchens and handle refunds. Every team action is logged.
We use these companies to run Chopinson, and they only use your information to provide their service to us:
- Paystack, for payments, payouts and bank account checks.
- Supabase, which hosts our database and sign-in.
- Meta (WhatsApp), to send sign-in codes.
- A video hosting service, to store and stream videos.
- An identity-check provider, to verify cooks' NINs.
- Cloudflare, which hosts this website.
Some of these services store data outside Nigeria. We only use providers with appropriate safeguards for that transfer. We don't sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while you use Chopinson. Order and payment records are kept as long as the law requires for accounting and tax. Identity-check selfies and kitchen photos are kept while you sell on Chopinson and deleted after you stop, unless we need them to deal with a complaint.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete your account and information, except what we must keep by law.
- Stop using your information for something you object to.
Email support@chopinson.com from the email or phone number on your account, or message Support in the app. You can also turn off location for Chopinson in your phone's settings at any time. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Children
Chopinson is not meant for children under 13, and only adults (18 or older) can sell food.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
